Dr. Perkins has been affiliated with the Foot and Ankle Center since 1997.
He joined Dr. Steven Haman who established the office in 1984. Dr. Haman
retired in 2006. Dr. Perkins education began at Central Piedmont Community
College earning Associates in Arts degree. He then completed his Bachelor of
Arts degree at Belmont Abby College. While attending Belmont Abby College he was
named Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and served as President of
Pi Gamma Mu, a national honor society for social sciences. After his bachelors
degree he entered graduate school obtaining his Juris Doctor from North Carolina
Central University and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Des Moines
University.
Upon receiving his degree in podiatric medicine he entered a podiatric medical
and surgical residence program in Johnson City, Tennessee. The training program
was jointly sponsored by the James Quillen VAMC and East Tennessee University,
Quillen College of Medicine. He currently serves as an instructor in podiatric
surgery to residents at the VAMC and has served as an adjunct clinical
instructor to the Department of Family Medicine at the Quillen College of
Medicine.
Professional affiliations include the American Podiatric Medical Association and
the Tennessee Podiatric Medical Association. He served as President of the
Tennessee Podiatric Medical Association for 2 terms. In addition he was
appointed by Governor Phil Bredesen to serve on the Board of Podiatric Medical
Examiners where he was elected to serve as Chairman.
Dr. Perkins is an active staff member at Washington County hospitals with full
admitting and surgical privileges. In addition, Dr. Perkins has been certified
by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a fellow of the American
Professional Wound Care Association.
